While kids like Mikey are battling leukemia, researchers struggle to secure funding for critical pediatric cancer research that could save Mikey's life, and the lives of other children with cancer. Thanks to donor support, a new treatment was developed that gives 3-year-old Mikey a chance.

I was diagnosed with a rare, stage-4 cancer known as Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma (ARMS). This cancer was found in my pelvis, and I was told I had less than a 10% chance of survival. When I was diagnosed, I thought it was the end of the world.

After an X-ray revealed a mass in his leg, Markus was diagnosed with osteosarcoma – a rare form of bone cancer. To save his life, doctors at Children’s Colorado had to remove Markus’ leg at the knee. Markus opted to undergo a Van Nes Rotationplasty, a groundbreaking procedure that replaces the knee with the ankle joint from the amputated limb, which allows patients to retain more mobility.
