It is hard for me to pick my favorite person on the Burn Team. They each have played a role in my journey from the time I first arrived at Children’s Colorado to today. They have been there for me through this whole experience.
They are always willing to answer my questions, even when I’m not at an appointment. No matter what problems I have with any of my medical supplies (my hard masks, soft masks, and garments), they always try to fix it so it’s the most comfortable for me. They always encourage me and tell me how well I am doing with all of the different exercises to get stronger. I don’t like some of the exercises, but the Burn Team always tell me they see how hard I work, even though I may not enjoy it.
I attend Medical Day treatment, an alternative Monday-through-Friday school on the Anschutz Medical Campus for kids like me who have a lot of medical appointments at Children’s Colorado. When I am done with my appointments at PT and OT, someone from the Burn Team walks me back to school. I think that is pretty cool that they are willing to do that for me. They treat me like family. They even baked me a cake for my birthday.
I really believe that Children’s Colorado takes very seriously how they interact with patients and their families. That’s true not just for the Burn Team, but all of the areas of the hospital. I couldn’t imagine going anywhere else for my treatment.
