Since the creation of Peaks for Peace in 2011, the team of outdoor enthusiasts has climbed 65 peaks, hiked the Appalachian Trail, and raised close to $14,000 for the Children’s Hospital Colorado Burn Camps Program through Team Children’s Colorado.

The goal of Peaks for Peace is to enable people to combine their passion for the outdoors with a philanthropic cause.

Co-founders of Peaks for Peace, Brennan Metzler and Matt Lovas, were counselors at the Children’s Colorado Burn Camps summer program. Their experiences with the inspiring campers and staff motivated them to support the program the best way they could think of - on their snowboards.

“In connecting my passion for snowboard mountaineering with a philanthropic cause, I found a deeper meaning to my adventures and travels,” Metzler said. “Not only was I able to do a definite good for a worthy cause, but my own pursuits were reinvigorated.”

Peaks for Peace continues to gain momentum. They started out promoting their backcountry and outdoor journeys to their immediate communities, families and friends. As they began publicizing their trips in online backcountry communities, donations and supporters quickly multiplied. They have also acquired sponsors who are excited to support the hospital through Peaks for Peace outdoor adventures.

One of their latest expeditions was a 45-day mountaineering trip across the western United States. Team members climbed, snowboarded, skied, hiked and moved to the top of 33 summits, all in support of Children’s Colorado and children with burn injuries.

“Our vision is to continue to increase our reach as an organization, building a larger community of campaigns and philanthropic causes,” Metzler said. “As long as people find value in our fundraising model, we will continue to promote it and support people's journeys!”

Metzler says everyone has a way to contribute through Team Children’s Colorado.

“Find yours and I promise you will be rewarded in kind,” Metzler said. “Why not do something significant with what you love?”
